At the corner of Main and Gallagher, in the beating heart of Shediac, stands a Victorian villa that has crossed three centuries without losing its grace or its taste for the unexpected. Built in 1896 by Dominique Richard, an industrialist with an eye on the future, the house has welcomed mayors, families, dreamers, and now, curious travellers.
Le Griffon takes its name from Alice’s winged companion in Wonderland, that half-eagle, half-lion creature who, alongside the Mock Turtle, teaches Alice the celebrated Lobster Quadrille. In Shediac, Lobster Capital of the World, the quadrille never really stops.
Our inn is the anchor point of Shediac Wonderland, a constellation of experiences inspired by the world of Lewis Carroll: Le Moque-Tortue bistro, Adorable Chocolat artisanal chocolatier, the Neptune Drive-In Theatre, and the Morse et Marteaux BBQ Smokehouse. Each address is a doorway to something deliciously curious.
The morning coffee is serious. And the hot breakfast, served fresh each morning four houses down at our artisanal chocolatier, Adorable Chocolat, from 7:30am onwards.
Welcome. We’ve been expecting you.
Le Griffon is a four-star Victorian villa, meticulously restored to preserve the exceptional craftsmanship of its era. The original hardwood floors, laid circa 1898, speak of a know-how that no longer exists. Period furniture sits alongside high-quality Queen beds in every room, because nostalgia need not exclude comfort.
An entire side of the villa is reserved for guests: two private entrances, a lobby, the beautiful Vienneau Parlour, and a fully equipped kitchen and dining room. The Vienneau Parlour, with its original woodwork and soft light, invites reading, contemplation, or a round of cards among friends.
There are two kitchens in the villa. The upstairs kitchen is reserved for guest use. It is air-conditioned and well equipped, with a dedicated guest refrigerator, a full-size oven and stove, a microwave, toaster, coffee maker, kettle, and everything needed to prepare most meals. Guests are welcome to use the kitchen to prepare their dinners and suppers.
Wi-Fi is available throughout the house and works well across the property. The outdoor courtyard is surrounded by beautiful century-old trees and offers a blend of sun and shade. The screened veranda is the perfect spot for an afternoon cocktail before heading to the beach! As the Hatter would say: it is always time for tea. Or for apéritifs.
Starting at 7:30am each morning, a hot homemade breakfast awaits at Adorable Chocolat, just four doors down. Everything’s made from scratch daily by our master chocolatiers and pastry chefs. The coffee remains uncompromising.
High-quality Queen beds with fine linens. Private bathroom with walk-in shower. Individual air conditioning. Flat-screen TV with cable channels and streaming service. Fast, free Wi-Fi. Hair dryer, tea and coffee making facilities.
The Vienneau Parlour welcomes you with its period furniture and original woodwork. The fully equipped kitchen is at your disposal for meals. The games room offers a moment of respite between adventures. The screened veranda and outdoor courtyard, framed by century-old trees, complete this space where you feel at home without quite being there.
“For you never quite know what you will find behind the next door.”
Shediac Wonderland is a family of story-driven businesses created by Sébastien Després and Heather Wright. Le Moque-Tortue (a board game bistro), Morse et Marteaux BBQ Smokehouses & Lobster Shacks (four locations throughout Shediac), Le Griffon (bed & breakfast), The Neptune (a Drive-In Theatre), Adorable Chocolat (an artisanal chocolaterie), Bazar Neptune (a Saturday market), and Witzend Tours & Adventures (tours, escape rooms, and concierge), and the Shediac Renaissance Faire: each one a chapter of a larger story about what happens when a community decides to take play seriously.
Le Griffon’s the chapter where the story pauses, the door closes softly, and the rest of Wonderland waits ’til morning.
